The Prange Team Sells Real Estate in Colleyville
Colleyville Named Best In Texas

Colleyville Picked by Money as Best Place to Live in Texas.  Money magazine and CNN/Money teamed with data researchers at OnBoard to determine the best cities to live in the United States, and Colleyville was found to be the best city in Texas.  According to the survey, it also ranked 40th in the country.

Two other Texas cities were finalists – Sugar Land, ranked 46, and Boerne, ranked 48.  There were a total of 77 Texas cities in contention.

The top 10 cities in the United States were named as follows:

  1. Moorestown, NJ
  2. Bainbridge Island, WA
  3. Naperville, IL
  4. Vienna, VA
  5. Louisville, CO
  6. Barrington, RI
  7. Middleton, WI
  8. Peachtree City, GA
  9. Chatham, NJ
  10. Mill Valley, CA

The researchers narrowed the list of cities by only considering those with a population greater than 14,000, above the median household income, and with population growth and real estate appreciation over the last five years.

That culled the list down to 1,321 cities.

The researchers then only considered cities within 60 miles of a major airport and 30 miles of a major teaching hospital.

Towns were eliminated with low education scores or that fell below the 25th percentile in any of the following categories:  unemployment, income growth, crime, or arts resources.

That resulted in a list of 100 towns, with the researchers weighing economic, education and safety factors twice as heavily as arts, leisure and park space.

Other factors, including data on education, environment, housing affordability, taxes, commute times, job market and interviews of residents were also considered.

Colleyville City Manager Bill Lindley said he is thrilled.  “The citizens should be proud of this,” Lindley said.

Lindley feels that this ranking coming on the heels of Newsweek magazine ranking Grapevine High School number 100 and Colleyville Heritage High School as number 110 in the country will help to attract new residents and businesses to Colleyville.

“We are like a proud poppa right now,” he added.

Just a Little History
Colleyville has historically been primarily a rural area, situated for the most part between Big Bear and Little Bear Creek in the Eastern Cross Timbers of the central portion of northeastern Tarrant County.

The first significant settlement of the area began in the 1850’s.  Samuel C.H.  Witten came to Texas from Missouri in 1854 and established a farm along Little Bear Creek.  He become one of the founders of the Spring Garden community, which flourished in the 1860’s around a well-known school, finally declining in the 1870’s as Bedford rose to prominence.  Other settlers from the upper South included Johathan A.  Riley, who came from Kentucky in 1856 and settled near the Spring Garden community; the Kentucky-born adventurer and Civil War veteran Ryan Harrington, who bought land in 1865 near the community of Pleasant Glade; and William B.  Cheek, who migrated to northeast Tarrant County from Kentucky in 1869, eventually settling near Ryan Harrington’s property.  For the rest of the story click here.
